Why Goshen?

Goshen was the province in Egypt where the people of Israel lived between the time of Joseph and the Exodus.  In the time leading up to the Exodus the Lord protected His people and the land of Goshen from all the plagues He sent on the Egyptians.

Our farmers are battling modern plagues, like Bovine TB, that bring devastation to their herds - constant testing, movement restrictions andloss of livestock.   In some extreme TB breakdowns, whole herds have to be slaughtered.  Please understand we do not consider these modern plagues to be sent on our farmers by the Lord - rather they are a natural consequence of the fallen nature of our world - but we do believe that, like the people of Israel living in the land of Goshen, we can ask for the Lord's protection for ourselves and our farms.  There currently seems to be no human way to eradicate Bovine TB or many of the other diseases our farmers have to deal with.

Using the principles we see at work for the people of Israel in Goshen, we want to bring the blessing of the Lord to our land, to see healing where there is suffering and protection where farms are unaffected.

In Chronicles it states "If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sins and heal their land."  This puts the responsibility for seeking healing for our land in our hands as praying Christians.  We believe that just like the Lord protected His people from the plagues we can identify with the farmers in our land and seek His protection for their farms.

A quick overview of Goshen in Genesis & Exodus:
The first time Goshen is mentioned is in the book of Genesis, when Joseph's brothers came to live with him in Egypt -
Gen 45:10,
Gen 46:33,34
Gen 47:4,5 and 6.

Then the 4th plague of flies in Exodus 8:22 and 23 -  "But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen....."

5th plague which killed the animals, Exodus 9:4 and 6 - "...so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die"

7th plague of hail, Exodus 9:26 - "The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen..."

9th plague of darkness, Exodus 10:23 - "Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived".  (Goshen)

10th plague - the death of the firstborn.  Doesn't mention Goshen but refers to 'among the Israelites' who lived in Goshen.
